The most important thing is not to rush! And do not try to make a masterpiece from the first work.
Avoid the desire to portray dirt, traces of combat damage, rust, and more at the first job. Application of service marks is a complex process that requires experience in assembling models and an understanding of the principles of damage, contamination, etc. A clean and tidy tank / plane is much better than a model coated with brown paint and sand. Washes, chips and so on are also superfluous on the first model. Dioramas, damaged equipment and other complex compositions should also not be taken at the beginning of the modeling path. Without experience, all this will look comical.
Listen to guides and advice on the net, but at the very beginning it is best to carefully and without haste to assemble the model according to the instructions. After separating the parts from the sprues, clean the cut points of the parts, do not apply a lot of glue, try on the parts to each other before gluing. Do not be surprised if extra parts remain on the sprues after assembly. They are needed for other build options or model modifications and may not be used.
On the first model, you should not use various add-ons, for example, photo-etching. It is better to leave all this for the next work. With experience, you can try your hand at simple sets of add-ons. Painting masks for aircraft models, on the other hand, can help with painting the cover of the glazing.
Some parts of the model should be painted before final assembly. For an airplane, you need to paint the cockpit before assembling the fuselage, wheels before installing on the model. The tank has an entrenching tool, tracks and rollers.
When painting – do not rush, let the paint dry well. Follow the instructions when applying decals. Position them while they are wet, then blot with a cotton swab. And don’t glue all the decals on the model! They are for different color options.
We hope that our tips will help you take your first steps in this wonderful hobby!
