Hallo,

es dürfte sich um diesen hier handeln:

http://i37.tinypic.com/2yyy0rs.jpg

http://i34.tinypic.com/o85ehl.jpg

Gefunden hier: http://www.tiif.de/thread.php?threadid=156&page=1&sid=

"Near Weissenbach, May 1945 (??)

An information from Bad Ischl:

In 1945 a tiger tank remained lying near to Bad Ischl. In the following years it was dismantled by scrap dealers. A contemporary witness can still remember well the Jagdtiger, because he as a child looked for useful things in this tiger still in 1947.

The wreck place is in an unobstructed area with a smaller bridge 3-4 kms away from Weissenbach on the road between Attersee and Bad Ischl. The tiger did not tip over to the side, but remained in normal position in the brook bed.

The HQ of the Abt 653 was at Wei²enbach on 4 May and in Bad Ischl on 5 May 1945, so this place is on its way. Maybe a picture could confirm this information in the future."

Hello,

this picture is from photographer Cecil F.S.Newman.

This photo can be seen now in the newly published illustrated book "Berlin 1945/46". It is a book for the current photo exhibition (17.07.2015 - 25.10.2015) in the city museum (Stadtmuseum) in Berlin.

On page 76, there is another photo of the Tiger in the 'Altonaer Strasse', similar to the already known picture taken from elevated position. Similar like this: http://www.tiif.de/bilder/altonaerstrberlin1.jpg

But this picture and the picture of Chris need to be photographed at an earlier date. Spare tracks on hull front and turret side are still on place. Several small wagons for rubble are visible next to the tank wreck.

Zitat:
Original von Javier Tome
Kolbermoor, 01 May 1945

On 01 May 1945, the 30th US IR was running to take the Inn bridges at Rosenheim and the CCR of the 12th US AD the bridge at Pfraundorf . At 1500 part of the CCR was in Pfraundorf and the double autobahn bridge across the Inn River and the railroad span were seized. Task Force Chaney was advancing to Bad Abling when at noon the Jagdtiger of Lt R. Braun arrived to Kolbermoor from Lohholz. But the antitank barriers in Ludwigstrasse were closed and the steel bridge through the werkkanal by the mill was the only way. Although there was a max load signal of 7.5 metric tons on the bridge and some people warned of the danger the Jagdtiger tried to cross the bridge slowly, but slowly it dropped. Only the long gun barrel "reached" the other side.

Rudolf Braun admitted that the decision to cross was too daredevil. But on account of the very hard martial law, no Jagdtiger could be abandoned to the enemy. Only two possibilities remained, to blow up the tank or to go through the bridge.

The 6 crew members could escape from the canal but dripping wet. Afterwards they could rescue from the vehicle all valuable devices like glasses or the radio equipment.

- From a talk in the Kolbermoor Hauptschülern

The tank still lay some weeks in the channel, but it was obstructing the water supply of the lower hydroelectric power plant whose performance went back about approximately 30 kilowatts. At the request of Bürgermeister Karl Staudter the tiger was rescued by the Americans at the end of May. Instead other people say that the Jagdtiger was rescued in July. Anyway, later it remained on the channel bank by the Sechs houses and was transported only in late 1945 to a collection point for former Wehrmacht property.

In the KH Munch book it is mentioned a second tank destroyer that turned around and continued towards Bad Aibling. Is there more information about this vehicle?

Hi Chris !

I knew it, that you've got a little surprise ready ! Great !

I don't know the other picture you have shown now.
It was in an other "Unidentified Tiger I" thread I don't searched, yet. And the current owner of my shown photo, has only this one.

With google-search I found the pictures finally: http://www.tiif.de/thread.php?postid=3789 (date 09.12.2010 10:53) Augenzwinkern

With this second photo, we can clearly make out the absense of the K.F.F.2 periscope holes and I actually think obviously there are no track hangers, too. smile

I haven't the original picture in my hands, only the scan was send to me for analyse & discussion.

I've the Detailscan in larger size, but I cannot make out a impact mark clearly between the foliage shadows.

With this smale facts, I think at least, we can say it could be a February - Mid April '43 produced Tiger on duty of one of the mentioned "s.Heeres-Pz.Abteilungen".

Many thanks for your outstanding help again !

Best regards
Ronny

Hi Chris,

thank you for your fast response, again !

I'm not shure, that we can see plugged or no K.F.F.2 at this picture. I would say, that track hangers at turret side are hidden behind the man, if they are there, too.

Here a closer detail-scan of the drivers vision. But the picture is in bad shape and most of the important features are covered.

In the book "Erinnerungen an die Tigerabteilung 503" (Memories of the Tigerabteilung 503) , I've found the same picture as Blondel/Pascal posted here at 11.08.2010 21:44: http://www.tiif.de/thread.php?postid=2777

The Tiger #213 of s.Pz.Abt. 503 has possibly a compareable impact mark at the upper gearbox amour. But obviously the only compareable mark.

If it is actually #213, could it be, that my picture short time before Operation Citadel was recorded ?

The tank man with the black cap (M43 field cap?) could be evidence to suggest that the picture was taken in June or later of 1943 ?

What do you think about?

I know, we can speculate a long time about the picture, but I would like to have as much as possible informations Augenzwinkern.

Hello,

here a new picture of a friend.

I know that the main characteristics are covered, but I think, that we could have here a Tiger I (early production), possibly December '42 production or a while later.
I would to categorize this photo in eastern front, early 1943. But what do you say?

I've searched the Gallery, but unfortunately found nothing suitable.
But maybe this tank could be one of s.Pz.Abt. 502 or 503 ?

I haven't any further informations to the photograph.

Maybe somebody here can say something about the photo.
Maybe I missed a detail, that suggests to the unit.

Hello,

Chris, first I've to thank you , for the helpfull link to the videoclip with the cemetery scene. smile

I don't think that still fights have taken place directly to the cemetery. The tank was probably only for the "dramatic" scene set on fire (or really shot?).

Thank you very much, Federico !

Your statement was very important and explain the presence of "my" tank in Tunisia plausible.

My first displayed photo is of such outstanding image clarity (original size 27,5 x 21,5 cm, here shown only a image section), that I'm always amazed what details there can be seen. It's a very fine Press photograph, no marks or written notices on reverse side. Only marking (maybe from b/w negative) "A-388" on right lower edge is visible.

Probably a still unnoticed photo that is been so far still not specifically assigned to a tank.

If you have some more informations, please tell them us smile

Hello Chris,

great find of a new picture of this tank. Thank you very much !
Where can I find the whole documentary film, because I think it is from a video?

Here another photo from my collection:

And this one, an image panel from Munster Tank Museum, which shows the tank upon arrival in Germany. Noteworthy, that the turret is still in its old position. Only the gun had to be shortened somewhat.

Maybe I should try to contact the Museum in Munster.
However, if documents to the tank would have been available, why has it then not correctly restored the tank to its original state?
This link says: "It is has been restored and repainted to represent a vehicle used by sPzAbt 504 of the German Afrikakorps...." http://www.achtungpanzer.com/german-panz...1-gallery-i.htm

Is there more information about the tank on the second photo by Chris? I think it's a wartime photo, at the time before D-Day.
I haven't found any similar photo of this tank in the UK. Maybe, some of the tanks in Sutton Veny, were scrapped after the war. I think it's not the #7 from Bovington, which came from Lybia and is a Ausf.L.

Strangely enough will be shown on later photos, the tank in my title image, multiple with a large black "7" on the front armor plate, next to the drivers sight. This number was however placed in later years of his existence on the cemetery.

More opinions are welcome. Thank you.

Tunisian Pzkpfw. III of 2nd company/s.Pz.Abt.504 ? 03.08.2014 08:45 Forum: sPzAbt.504

Hello,

i have this original picture of a Pzkpfw. III Ausf.M, 1943 destroyed in the area of Tunis (La Mornaghia).

I have found out, it's definitely the Pzkpfw. III, which is today exhibited in the Tank Museum at Munster/Germany.

I used various photos for comparison, which showing the tank on the field of military cemetery in La Mornaghia at various times. As the tank there is gone, is not known to me.
He stood there at least until 1971, or slightly longer, and was then kept in a camp (Tunisian army in Enfida-Ville).
Briefly set up solely for the inauguration of the Central Military Cemetery in Bordj Cedria in 1977.
In 1986, the wreck was shipped to Germany and restored to running condition.

The mark on the side of the aditional armor, very strongly reminds of the white rhomboid of s.Pz.Abt. 504.
The digit #2, next to the rhomboid should then actually stand for the 2nd company ?

As far as I know, was the 2nd company of the '504' not in North Africa.

I hope that someone can give me a brief explanation, please.

Hallo Michael,

ja das sollte ein frühes Baulos sein. Vermutlich vom Januar 1943.

Ronny

Hi Michael,

yes, that should be an early construction lot. Probably by January 1943.
In my opinion, the vehicle has installed no Feifel air filter system.

Also in the absolute magnification using high resolution scan, no unique mark or turret number is visible. There are probably but shadowy two vertical lines on the side of the turret visible that could belong to a number.

The unusually mottled camouflage could be actually former winter painting, which was gradually washed away.

Maybe even someone has a tip to the photo.
In the meantime I will look through the gallery.

I have browsed the gallery already, but no comparable photo found that the vehicle shown here indicate that a tank of '502'.

Significantly, the position and shape of the metal brace for the spare chain links at the front of the vehicle is evident.
No numbers at turret side recognizable.
I placed the position of the Balkenkreuz also very distinctive and apparently further ahead at the top of the hull.

I haven't a better picture at the moment.

maybe some new pictures in this auction: http://www.ebay.de/itm/12-Originale-Jadt...=item4d1b4a50b7

And interesting the discussion for this auction at Axis WWII AFV Discussion Group:http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/mes...+photos+on+ebay

We see well known pictures of Fahrgst.Nr.305010 Jagdtiger #301 and
maybe new from Fahrgst.Nr.305009. Still not yet in 653 gallery (?).
Does anybody know the "turret number" of Fahrgst.Nr.305009 ?

Best regards

Ronny

Great find ! Thank you very much for the fast determination of the photo. smile

I don't think that we need the photo in the 503 Gallery, because there is already a photo taken from the same angle. Or what do you think?

Best regards

S23 ? 30.03.2014 18:27 Forum: Schwere Panzerkompanie SS PR.2 Das Reich

Hello,

a friend of mine has this photograph new in his collection.

At the reverse side of the picture is only written "Charkow 1943". I think summertime, before or after Kursk.
He told me he definately recognized the last two digits as "23".

One of the men on board seems to wear a cap with SS-skull and could point out to SS-Tiger unit. Unfortunately the hull of the tank's side mostly covered, so that almost no details are visible.
But the front left-side fender is similar to bent as shown in a photo of the S23.

I haven't a better picture at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Ronny

332 ? 20.03.2014 19:57 Forum: sPzAbt.503 FHH

Hello,

a friend of mine has these two photographs new in his collection.

His own information about the pictures and the Tigers are, that they could be from s.Pz.Abt. 503.
Somebody told us, that the location on the picture with the building behind, was in Mariupol/Ukraine 1943 (photo taken by Maintenance company).

Can anybody here tell something about this cats ? I didn't found one compareable pic in the gallery. Maybe missed it.

I think one of them could be the '332', still without Balkenkreuz at the turret side.
Or how do you see that? Maybe, then a very rare picture ?
I haven't better pictures at the moment.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Ronny
